diwali-rangoli-kolam-pictures India is set for  deewali celebrations this 17 October. Making beautiful rangoli or kolam as it is know in the south India is a intergral part of the deepavali celebrations.

Kolam is an art of beautifying courtyards and pooja rooms/prayer halls floors in India with different colored powder. Women in Indai usually are interested in decorating this way. The rangoli powder is mainly colored sandstone or limestone powder. The art of rangoli is known as Muggulu in Andhra pradesh, Rangavalli in Karnataka, Poovidal or Pookalam in Kerala, Chowkpurana in Uttar Pradesh, Madana in Rajasthan, Aripana in Bihar and Alpana in Bengal.

Rangoli simply is a creative expression of art through the use color powders on the floor. Rangoli sometimes is made using flower petals. The Rangoli drawn during diwali is to welcome Goddess Laxmi ( lakshmi), the Goddess of wealth.
