Supreme commander of Indian Armed Forces, the president Pratibha Patil was on Sukhoi-30MKI flown by Wing Commander S. Sajan.
Sajan who is an ace IAF pilot having 3200 hours of flying experience on different versions of Sukhoi was quoted saying that flying the president was an honor and pleasure after landing at Lohegaon Air Base near Pune.
The president Patil is now the world’s first woman president to fly in a fighter jet. It is reported that she was confident and comfortable through the 30 minutes sortie beginning at 600 km/h speed and touching 800 km/h later as per the president’s request for more speed. She is said to have handled few simple maneuvers comfortably too. He had to explain few things as and when the president questioned regarding the plane’s interiors, Sajan informed the press.
