image Charles Weis born on 30th March 1956 in Trenton, New Jersey, is an American football coach. He was the head football coach at the University of Notre Dame from 2005 to 2009. From 1997 to 2004, he was an NFL offensive coordinator for the New York Jets, and later for the New England Patriots.

The Fighting Irish finished the 2009 regular season with a 6–6 record. A poor record for the season in addition to high preseason expectations for the team, including a preseason top 25 ranking, caused widespread speculation that Notre Dame would fire Weis.

No official word from the university yet, but the New York Daily News is the first to report that Charlie Weis has been fired by Notre Dame  on Monday November 30, 2009. Names floated as possible successors include Florida’s Urban Meyer and Oklahoma’s Bob Stoops.
