Urban Meyer Steps Down as Florida Coach College Football.Meyer cited health reasons as at least part of the reason for stepping down.

Urban Meyer had a great career with the Gators. His 5 seasons yielded 56 wins and 10 losses. Next year will be interesting for the Swamp, as both Tim Tebow and Urban Meyer will be gone.Urban Meyer has been one of the most successful coaches in modern college football,winning two of the past three national titles with the Gators. Steve McClain who is a Florida spokesman said the Urban Meyer’s problem is more about stress. He stated, “It’s not like he’s been diagnosed with a disease,” McClain said. “It’s related to his ability to handle the stress. He only knows one way to go.”

With Meyer’s departure Athletic Director Jeremy Foley is now faced with a tough decision. Foley can take a few different routes including promoting current offensive coordinatior Steve Addazio. He can go after former coordinators: Charlie Strong (Lousiville) and Dan Mullen (Mississippi State). He can also pursue big name coaches like Bob Stoops (Oklahoma), Jim Harbaugh (Stanford), or Kyle Wittingham (Utah).

Then again there is always option D. After Tebow plays in the Sugar Bowl they can just offer him the head coaching position. Not quite sure about option D, but it would be interesting.

Urban Meyer said when asked about his decision,

He stated,

“I have ignored my health for years, but recent developments have forced me to re-evaluate my priorities of faith and family

Whatever is the reason. Meyers is going to be missed a lot.
