With her husband sitting beside, the wife quickly sizes up a waiter at a coffeeshop, and bluntly passes him on her phone number. She looks at the husband then, and asks, “Now do you know how it feels to be hurt?” Raat Gayi Baat Gayi? is about relationships and also looks at the philanderers, who, despite being committed, don’t mind having a PYT in a closet, for no strings attached fun.

Rahul (Rajat Kapoor) wakes up with heavy hangover after a late night party and is unable to remember just where he ended last night. All he remembers is that he started outrageously flirting with a stranger named Sophia (Neha Dhupia) with whom he lands in an isolated room in an inebriated state. Post that his memory is almost swiped off and he’s just inquisitive to know till what extent he went ahead.

The next morning Rahul’s wife Mitali (Iravati Harshe) is not on talking terms and leaves the house without explanation. With his neighbourhood friend Amit (Vinay Pathak), Rahul visits Saxena (Dalip Tahil) who had thrown the party to explore what happened the night before. The story revolves around that single drunk night. Lots of flash backs, thats it.

Sadly, the screenplay (Saurabh Shukla and Rajat Kapoor) falls woefully short in terms of generating interest. In fact, till three-fourths of the movie, there’s not much movement in the story, except for a few humor-laden sequences. It also moves lethargically and is unnecessarily slack.

Ankur Tewari’s music is strictly functional. Fuwad Khan’s cinematography captures the varied moods well.

The film scores in the performance department. Every member of the cast – Neha Dhupia, Rajat Kapoor, Vinay Pathak, Dalip Tahil, Irawati Harshe Mayadev, Anu Menon, Navniit Nisshan and Aamir Bashir – deliver fine performances. Especially Rajat and Vinay. Ranvir Shorey, Makrand Deshpande and Sudhir Mishra appear in cameos.

Yet, if you are a serious film buff then, you would end up saying.. Mera raat bi Gayi!!!
