Linda Kolkena Broderick Parole Case Result – It was in 1989 Elisabeth “Betty” Broderick fatally shot dead her ex-husband and his new wife in bed. Her case had come up for parole hearing. However, she has been denied parole as California Parole Board concluded that she is still the same angry person with no repentance over the crime.

Betty told in her statement that it was her husband’s extramarital affair and the bitter divorce that triggered her to commit this crime. She had said she actually wanted to talk to her husband, but somehow ended up shooting them. In one of her statement she says,

I allowed the voices in my head to completely take over; I took the lives of two wonderful people who were loved by many.

Betty Broderick, who is 62 now, was sentenced to 32 years lifetime and won’t be eligible for another parole in next 15 years.

Betty B. doesn't get a parole hearing for another 15 years? Is there no chance for someone to learn and change in a shorter period of time?! Good grief!

  • My friend who is planning on going into family law believes that she got what she deserves. She and I do not agree on this one. I believe from what I've read from my Psych classes that they really tortured this woman psychologically and emotionally. Abuse doesn't always have to be physical. Sometimes it's the emotional and psychological abuse that is most damaging. But my friend and I always disagree on this case. She feels that no matter how much heckling and abuse you receive… fighting back is always a bad idea. And according to her there are no laws that Dan Broderick could have used to kick Betty while she was down (this really scares me if she is going to be a lawyer). Perhaps I just feel that a woman like Betty Broderick does deserve a second chance at life but hey I may me in the minority here. After all I work with abused women all the time and my friend feels that they are making themselves victims and that all they look for is a easy out. Really scary that we may have a future family law practitioner with these views.
