One legend has that Valentine was a priest who served during the 3rd century Rome. When Emperor Claudius II found that single men were better soldiers than the ones married, he banned marriage for young men. St. Valentine, however felt that it was injustice and continued to perform marriages for young lovers in secret. When Claudius discovered Valentine’s secret he ordered that he be put to death. The day Valentine met is death is celebrated as lover’s day or Valentine day.
