A massive tornado ripped through Mississippi killing at least 9 people including two children.

The twister was part of a fierce storm system that pulverized the southeast on Saturday. Mississippi’s Yazoo City is among the hardest hit areas.

In excess of 30 tornadoes have been accounted for across the state of Mississippi among many other reports of wind damage and hail storm.

Governor Haley Barbour told the press that there was utter destruction in Yazoo County, where 3 died, and he declared a state of emergency in 17 counties. A church in Yazoo City was ripped apart and houses reduced to rubble.
