It’s recall time again!! Whirlpool Corp.’s Maytag unit is recalling nearly 1.7 million dishwashers’ following incidents of fire hazard reported from across the country.
An announcement from the Consumer Product Safety Commission confirmed the recall this Thursday. The Maytag, which is a part of Whirlpool Corporation, has received almost 12 reports of electrical malfunction in the dishwasher-heating element that led to fires and damage.
One such reported kitchen fire resulted in widespread damage, the agency reported. Fortunately no injuries have been reported.
The Maytag recall list includes Maytag, Jenn-Air, Amana, Admiral, Performa by Maytag Magic Chef, and Crosley brand dishwashers with plastic tubs. The recalled dishwashers were made with black, silver, bisque, white, and stainless steel front panels and were sold at department and appliance stores countrywide somewhere from February 2006 through April 2010. They were priced between $200 and $900.
Whirlpool, which owns Maytag has revealed how much this recall will cost them, a 1.7 million recalls, will cost the company a whooping $75 million and is the largest dishwasher recall since 3 years.
It is investigated that the heating element inside could short-circuit and then ignite, resulting in a fire hazard. Consumers are warned to stop using the product.
Whirlpool is now in the process of examining this problem. Maytag is expected to come to your home and repair the dishwasher and if you prefer you can take a $150 or $250 rebate towards the new dishwasher.
