An intense Earthquake measuring 6.5-magnitude shook the southern Mexican state of Oaxaca on Wednesday, and its tremors were felt as far as Mexico City as per the reports coming in now.

The U.S. Geological Survey informed the press that the quake epicenter was situated in a sparingly populated, mountainous region of Oaxaca close to the southern Pacific coast.
An officer describing the quake said,
“It felt strong, very strong; there are people who got scared and left their houses,” and he in addition confirmed that there were no reports of damage yet.
The Oaxaca state civil defense department furthermore said it had not got any reports of injuries or damage from the area.
As per the U.S. Geological Survey’s press release the quake struck at 2.22 a.m. local time [3:22 a.m. EDT]. The quake’s epicenter was centered about 75 miles west-southwest of Oaxaca City, which is the state capital, and is about 220 miles south-southeast of Mexico City.
Mexico’s National Seismological Service computed the magnitude at 6.4 on the Richter scale, and the depth at 6.2 miles.
