An unbreakable extremely strong glass that was yet to find a purpose since its creation in 1962 is on the edge to turn into a multibillion-dollar business for Corning Inc.

The glass pioneer in business for almost 150 years is increasing its production of what is called simply as Gorilla glass and expects it to be on the touch-screen tablets and high-end high-definition TVs.

Jefferies & Co reveals that Corning confirmed their views supporting it with a press release signifying that they anticipate Gorilla Glass sales to reach roughly $1 billion annually by 2011.

Corning is plunging its ultra durable "Gorilla Glass" for use as HDTV cover glass first and then might extend it to other devices. This stuff was initially invented in 1962 and has been used in smart phones and handheld devices to guard them against drop damage and scratches.

The company is anticipating its first deal to be materialized soon, and the Gorilla Glass might be launched as early as next year. The million-dollar question that pops now into anybody’s mind is whether we are willing to pay extra for one.
