The 17th Annual Screen Actors Guild (SAG) awards drew the path for what could become a huge night at the imminent Academy Awards for The King’s Speech.
“The King’s Speech” snatched 2 of the top honors Sunday, taking home Best Male Actor for Colin Firth’s performance, and also the Best Ensemble award, the SAG comparable of Best Movie.
Natalie Portman won the trophy for Best Female Actress for her act in “Black Swan”.
Primarily the Colin Firth-lead drama thumped Black Swan and The Social Network for Best Picture. Then Firth won the Best Actor award, which incorporated a strong field of competitors such as Jeff Bridges in True Grit. With these wins subsequent identical wins at the Golden Globes, The King’s Speech should be measured the favorite to stride away with Best Picture at the Academy Awards.
In the lead actress class, Natalie Portman predictably won for her performance in Black Swan. The Supporting Actor and Actress came for The Fighter with Christian Bale and Melissa Leo coming out on top.
On the TV side, Claire Danes took home the Best Actress award in a TV Movie for her memorable performance in Temple Grandin, while Al Pacino won the male side for You Don’t Know Jack.
The Comedy Series Ensemble award went to ABC’s Modern Family. Its cast did not materialize into the Best Actress and Actor awards, nevertheless. It was for Betty White for Hot in Cleveland and Alec Baldwin in 30 Rock.
HBO achieved a huge win with the freshman show Boardwalk Empire that sidelined Mad Men and Dexter for Best Drama Series. Boardwalk Empire as well produced the Best Actor in a Drama with Steve Buscemi, while Julianna Margulies won Best Actress for The Good Wife
