image Ramesh has accomplished something in countless comedy films and has even been called ‘Comedy King’ by fans. But recurring effort have somehow watered down the impact his comedy has on audiences.

Rangappa Hogbitnaa is an addition in the catalog of his comedy frolics, nevertheless this one isn’t as good as the former ones.

Rangappa Hogbitna is a rare event based story. In the typical case of traditional family when the elders are at the deathbed they articulate their wish of seeing the family members. This serious issue in ‘Rangappa Hogbitna’ is embellished to give a comedy film.

The rumor that Rangappa is at the brink of death brings all the relatives and friends to his house.

Rangappa is the head of the local laughing club and has directed his son that there should be no exhibit of grief after his death. His laughing club friends reach his house to carry on with their laughing exercises, while a whole bunch of relatives as well join in with their own intention to take advantage of the situation, adding up to the chaos in the house.

Then there is an unexpected twist in the story. A woman comes into the scene and behind closed doors tells Ramesh that she is Rangappa’s love and the comedy continues.

This reconstructed movie based on the English flick Death At A Funeral seems to have the whole thing in place, be it humor or the storyline. Regrettably, the actors portraying these parts fail to decipher the same to comedy on screen. Ramesh Arvind, Sanjjanaa and Sihi Kahi Chandru appear to be the only recognizable faces. Others seem like extras who’ve unexpectedly been asked to fill the space of missing actors.

This film guaranteed to bring the situational comedy variety to Kannada. It could’ve well been a pacesetter. Nevertheless, it ends up being a regretful effort, with half-baked pretext for actors, who fail to emote correctly.

We give it 3/5 for being a bit entertaining!
