image A person has been taken into custody for poisoning the oak trees at Auburn’s historic Toomer’s Corner.

The 130-year old oak trees at Toomer’s Corner in Auburn, been identified to be poisoned with an herbicide called Spike 80DF. It’s been a game day tradition in Auburn to decorate the huge oaks with lavatory paper subsequent to a Tigers football win.

The 130-year old trees are dying because of this poisoning. Spike 80DF normally is used to destroy trees. It was found out that this time the chemical was intentionally applied in lethal amounts to the soil to bring down the trees.

The university said,

“There is little chance to save the trees,”
